These day, many electronic devices that provide advanced features with a friendly price. Of course many people don't want to miss it. Buy the new one, while the old one discarded. Wait, what? discarded the old one? Have you ever wonder where's the electronic waste ended? Or have you ever wonder how many people in this world do the same thing as you?
The world produces 20 to 50 million tons of electronic waste every year. Less than 20% can be recycled while the 80% was burned. Quite a number of electronic devices whose components are made of hazardous chemicals and heavy metals, such as polyvinyl chloride (PVC), lead, mercury, barium, and brominated flame retardants (BFRs). Panels on tube television sometimes contain barium, which can trigger liver damage and muscle function. In fluorescent lamps there are also dangerous mercury gases.
Agbogbloshie, a suburb of Accra (the capital of Ghana) is an electronic landfill from around the world. Most of them are from big countries like America, England, Japan, etc. More than 50 thousand people settled around the city of Accra, from children to adults. Imagine, they're in an air zone that has been contaminated with dangerous chemicals. Until children who live and work to recycle electronic waste, kidney disease, liver damage, respiratory problems, until coughing up blood.
So, start from now on, think wisely when you want to buy electronic devices. There's some way that you can do to reduce the electronic waste : 1. Reduce the purchase of devices that are not priorities, 2. Don't buy the new one while the old one still in good condition, 3. Buy products that can be upgraded easily, 4. Recycle them, currently electronic waste processing companies have started to appear and are willing to accept electronic waste personally.
